Welcome
I’m Nancy Bior and I set up Practice and Development Ltd in December 2024 following 17 years working in Children’s Services for the Council. I am a registered social worker with Social Work England (SWE), a member of the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) and PEPS 2 qualified which is the qualification required to work with student social workers.
I decided to set up Practice and Development Ltd because I wanted to concentrate on certain areas of practice and develop new skills. Developing new skills supports continuous professional development being achieved and this is very important to me as a practice educator, supervisor and trainer. The vision is to provide high quality services to enable and support individuals to develop their social work knowledge and skills. The sessions will be tailored to your needs and a working together ethos will underpin our interactions to achieve meaningful learning, development and support experiences.
Background
I qualified as a social worker in July 2007 following the successful completion of a Masters in Social Work and Psychosocial Studies from the University of East Anglia. I already had been working as a senior family support worker in the Children’s with Disabilities team for Cambridgeshire Children’s Services and decided to return to the same team as a qualified social worker.
I then went on to work in social work teams across Cambridgeshire, Bristol and Gloucestershire in various teams covering intake and assessment work and longer-term work with children and their families which included care proceedings.
I have extensive experience of developing and running training and development programmes for newly qualified social workers. In the UK these programmes are called the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).
I qualified as a practice educator in September 2011 and I have been an on – site and off – site practice educator for a large number of student social workers in their first and final year placements. I also have assessed social workers studying to be practice educators. I continue to do this work now.
